A WESTBURY Lion has completed a skydive to raise money for local charity Dorothy House Hospice Care.
76-year-old Horace Prickett – a Wiltshire councillor and former Westbury mayor – jumped out of a plane at 12,500ft last week, as part of a mass jump with eight other people at the Army Parachute Association airfield in Netheravon, all raising money for Dorothy House.
Describing the jump, Horace said, “It was an absolutely, fantastic and amazing experience. There was cloud cover at about 10,000ft and once we had passed through that, there was a beautiful rainbow to see.”
Horace has set himself a fundraising target of £2,000 and is already two-thirds of the way there.
“I have supported Dorothy House from its beginning through many ventures, but this is probably the wildest yet!” he said. “However it was all over much quicker than carol singing or a sponsored walk but whether I’ll ‘bounce back’ quite so quickly I’m not sure.”
The cause is one that is close to Horace, whose wife was cared for by Dorothy House 20 years ago before she died.
“This is to recognise the support that my family has received from Dorothy House over several years, which has been second to none. The standard of care is first rate and my wish is that it may long continue and flourish.
“The foundation depends on the fundraising efforts of its supporters to meet its annual bills and it is actions such as this that will keep its good work going.”
