A new community group aimed at helping older adults stay active, relaxed and connected is launching this month.
The first session of the Gentle Movers Social Club will take place on Thursday 26th February 9.30am to 11am at Leigh Park Community Centre. The group will then meet weekly, every Thursday.
Sessions are free to attend and designed specifically for people aged 65 and over who want to look after both their body and mind in a friendly, pressure-free environment.
The first 45 minutes will focus on gentle exercises for the body and mind, including light movement, stretching, balance work, and simple mindfulness techniques. The activities are suitable for all abilities and can be adapted for those who prefer to remain seated.
The next half of the session is all about social connection, with 45 minutes dedicated to chatting, laughing and building new connections over a cup of tea.
“The social side is just as important as the exercise,” said Debbie Cole, manager at the community centre.
Natalie Ward, who is running the sessions, said, “Staying active doesn’t have to mean intense workouts. Gentle movement, mindfulness and good company can make a real difference to wellbeing.
“This club is about feeling better, meeting people and starting the day with a smile.”
There is no cost, no special equipment needed, and no commitment to consistent attendance.
“Come along, bring a friend, and enjoy moving a little, relaxing a little, and chatting a lot,” said Debbie.
Places are open now for the first session. To book a space, email Office@LPCCWestbury.org.uk or pop into the office.
