A Westbury man has completed a 120km walk along the Camino Way in Spain, raising more than £2,000 for Dorothy House
George Henderson was joined by friends Nic, Jon and Mel on the fundraising challenge.
The group walked the 120km distance, between Sarria and Santiago de Compostela, over seven days.
George, who has lived in Westbury for 49 years, said, “We decided to do a long walk before we got too old. I am 75, Nic is 76, Jon is 68 and Mel is 50. Both Nic and I are ex-military and used to compete together in long distance orienteering events when we were much younger.
“We have been walking three times a week for a few months and before Christmas we did eight miles a day for five days on the trot to see how our bodies stood up to the task. Thankfully we all came through unscathed.
“We thank all those kind people who have taken the trouble to sponsor us, it is greatly appreciated.
“Dorothy House, like all charities, are under serious financial strain due to the increase in NHS wages and National Insurance contributions announced in the budget last year. Any contribution no matter how small will help them continue to provide the wonderful service to individuals who are near the end of life or need respite.”
The group has already raised over £2,000, with donations still coming in.
