A thrilling match at Meadow Lane saw United lead early, concede either side of half time then score a stunning equaliser in the last minute!
Shav Allen continued his impressive start to life in the Western League with a fine all round performance which was capped with the late goal.
Callum Ham twice went close to giving Cheddar the lead inside the opening few minutes, firstly denied by Charlie Heydon then shooting off target. Heydon did well again when Ricky Bennett got into a threatening position.
Westbury hadn’t created anything in the opening exchanges until a defensive error by Mark Armstrong gifted the ball to Josh Ferguson and he produced a lovely chip over the advancing Kieron Webster to make it 1-0 on 14 minutes.
Play flowed from end to end as the exciting football continued and Heydon made several good saves to keep his side ahead, while at the other end Allen’s work rate created a chance which saw him round Webster but see a defender get back to clear the ball!
Heydon was helpless on 43 when in a sustained spell of pressure his save from Armstrong’s shot fell to Adam Jones who pounced to make it 1-1 on 43.
The 2nd half got off to a comparatively scrappy and stop-start beginning until Allen tried his luck with a chip which drifted just wide.
The visitors went ahead just after the hour when Jones notched his 2nd with a powerful finish after a corner kick hadn’t been cleared.
Mark Young began to threaten down the United right and he set up Tony McElhone whose strike was deflected wide. Another cross by Young seemed likely to set up Allen but top work by Webster prevented an effort at goal.
Heydon produced the save of the day to keep the lead at 1-2 when he finger-tipped a Ham header over the bar and a moment of genius from the ever dangerous Allen saw him latch onto Jordon Matthew’s ball and produce a 25 yard strike that flew into the far corner to share the points!
