LOCAL man Grant Savides is planning to run 100 miles over the next seven days to raise money for the schools of Westbury.
Grant is hoping to raise £1,400 for ‘everything the schools have done in these uncertain times’.
He is being backed by Richard Oakley, who will be running and cycling alongside Grant every day whilst filming and taking photos, and Daniel Gill who has done the behind the scenes work setting up the fundraising page and all the social media updates.
“As we know, due to closures, schools have lost out on very important fundraising which could and would have been used to pay for school meals, run breakfast clubs and provide supplies and maintenance,” explained Grant.
“There are 18,000 residents that live in Westbury, we all rely on these schools to educate our children. Throughout the lockdown schools have also looked after children of key workers and vulnerable families. Feeding them, keeping them safe and risking their own lives.
“It’s time we, as a community, say thank you to these schools for everything they have done in these uncertain times.”
Grant will start running on Monday 18th May @ 6pm; Tuesday @ 10am; Wednesday @ 6pm; Thursday, Friday and Saturday @ 10am and Sunday (last day) @ 2pm
“We felt the urge to something good for the community because of the COVID 19 epidemic,” added Dan. “Together we can support the establishments preparing the future generations of tomorrow.
“To make it even more interesting we wanted to also support the junior cricketers in our community who probably won’t partake in any cricket this year due to social distancing and COVID 19. So on the last day Grant will be running the last 14.3 miles in his cricket whites and will be donating the last day’s funding to Westbury & District Cricket Club to help towards future cricket programmes.
