WESTBURY Youth Club will officially open its doors on Wednesday 23rd November after a successful appeal for volunteers.
The youth club was set to launch in September but had to delay opening until enough volunteers came forward to help run the activities and sessions.
However, following a story in the White Horse News, volunteers came forward to offer their help.
Westbury’s new locality youth facilitator (LYF) Janette Bowra said, “The youth centre will run every Wednesday from 4.30pm – 6.30pm for 11-12 year-olds and from 7-9pm for 13 year-olds and above. Both the sessions welcome those who are disabled or have special educational needs.
“The youth club was funded by the area board through a grant for Positive Activities for Young People after a recommendation by the Local Youth Network management group, was instrumental in making this happen.
“The youth centre was due to open in September but due to low numbers of volunteers coming forth, the opening had to be postponed. The successful article published by the White Horse News resulted in further volunteers coming forward, which was amazing.
“On the first night the young people will have the opportunity to meet the volunteers and to get involved in various fun activities.”
The youth club is based at Leigh Park Community Centre. For further information or if anyone is still interested in volunteering and are 18 or over, they can contact the Leigh Park Community Centre manager, Debbie Cole, on 01373 825774.
Janette added, “The Local Youth Network is a way for young people aged 13 – 19 years-old including young adults up to 25 if disabled and/or with special educational needs, to have a say on how funds are spent on positive activities for young people in the Westbury Community Area.
“I am keen to hear from young people who would like to join the group. It is important that the funds available are spent on the activities, projects and services that Westbury young people themselves have said they need and want. This is a great way to ensure that they do.”
