Westbury travelled to Burbage and Royal Easton in the latest West of England Wilts and Gloucestershire Premier 2 match hoping to continue their good start against a side that has progressed to the National Village Knockout stage.
Westbury made one change from last week’s win against Biddestone with Nick Whiting come in for his brother Ben who was not available.
Burbage won the toss and had no hesitation in deciding to bat first on the hottest day of the summer so far.
Burbage made a very fine start against the regular Westbury opening attack of Oakley and Carroll and they took the score to 99 when Westbury struck by dismissing Lorrain for 31 stumped by Gill of the bowling of Hudson. Soon afterwards Westbury struck twice with the score at 112 with the dismissals of Joon (5) and Chandler (4). Whilst the wickets were falling around him the Burbage captain continued to score quickly. When the total reached 250 Cope (the Burbage captain ) was dismissed for a brilliant 141. After his dismissal the lower order took the total to 286 off their allotted 50 overs. Hudson (3-40) had the best figures ably supported by Mills (2-34) and Senneck ( 2-34).
When Westbury batted they were immediately on the back foot with the total at 7 when Whiting was dismissed for 6. Coles was then joined by Varley and they took the total to 69 when Coles was caught for 13. Then Shortly afterwards Burbage struck twice when Dickinson (2) and Mills (0) were dismissed with the total at 80. Hudson came to the wicket and joined a confident Varley who was going to play for Wiltshire the following day against Dorset. They took the total to 125 when Varley was out for an excellent 71. Hudson was then joined by the Westbury captain Senneck and the took the total to 181 when Hudson was out for 57. Shortly afterwards with the total at 210 Burbage struck by dismissing Senneck for 33 and then the innings subsided to 215 all in 44 overs.
