PRIMARY schools from across West Wiltshire visited Westbury Rugby Club recently for an Interschool TAG Rugby Festival.
Schools taking part were Bitham Brook, Bratton, Chapmanslade, Crockerton, West Ashton and Westbury Leigh.
Festival organiser, Julian Phelps said, “This is our fourth year of holding this event, which is getting bigger each year. Over 170 children from the local area had an afternoon of fun playing TAG rugby. The referees were pupils from the Laverton School and were truly amazing – great ambassadors for their school.
“Huge thanks go to our other volunteers – many of whom took time off work to help out with the festival. We would also like to thank our festival sponsor, Martin & Co, for providing us with the resources to hold the event.”
Other activities included a Rugby FunZone comprising a rugby-themed assault course and lessons on hitting a foam tackle bag.
On Saturday 23rd September, the Westbury RFC U7s played TAG rugby at half-time during the Aviva Premiership match between Bath RFC and Newcastle RFC, at a packed Recreation Ground.
Westbury RFC Juniors play on Sunday mornings at Knott Field, White Horse Country Park. Boys and girls ages 6 – 13 are very welcome to come to a free try-before-you-join scheme. Training sessions start at 10am. Just turn up at the club and you will be directed towards one of the relevant age-groups.
