DILTON Marsh Church of England Primary School has, as always, been extremely busy.
John Bullen, assistant headteacher said, “All the children have fully engaged with their topics enthusiastically; there have been many great and memorable moments.
“Some of our classes have visited the woods and taken part in outdoor and adventurous activities such as shelter building. Two of our classes were lucky enough to have a visit from a chocolatier. During the visit, they ate lots of chocolate and made some of own to take home. Our younger classes also had an exciting visit from Tropical Workshop Discoveries and were able to handle all manner of exotic creatures.
“At the beginning of October, we had our SIAMS inspection. During this inspection, the Diocesan inspector looked at the ethos and culture of the school. We were jubilant when we were graded ‘Outstanding ’. Highlights of the report include:
“The outstanding, innovative and vibrant curriculum that ensures excellent opportunities for spiritual, cultural, moral and social development of all learners.
“Pastoral care based on embedded Christian values is outstanding.
“A real sense of community permeates the school, coupled with an atmosphere of caring and inclusiveness between adults and children.”
John Bullen continued, “As part of our work with charities, we held a coffee morning to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Research and had fun raising money for Children in Need.
“Linked with our charity work, we are very proud of our house teams. The teams earn house points, and at the end of each term the winning team send a donation to their chosen charity. Throughout 2017 we have donated money to: Bath Cats and Dogs Home, Guide Dogs, Cancer Research and The British Heart Foundation.
“We have a fantastic choir. They have performed at Bath Christmas Market outside the Abbey and the Rotary Club Christmas Concert. In addition to this, we were lucky enough to sing with the Warminster Military Wives Choir in a very moving concert in our village church.
“Our school likes to be fully involved in the community and most Wednesdays children from year 6 cook a special lunch for a guest. The guests have included, Westbury’s Mayor and Mayoress, local church representatives, local councillors, our sports coaches and many others.
“As we look forward to 2018 we have many exciting things planned. Our topics ‘Great Britain’ and ‘Fighting Fit’ will offer the children lots of exciting learning opportunities in a wide range of curriculum areas.”
