MOTORBIKE racing brothers Jay and Sean Able, from Westbury, continue to zoom past the competition and climb the rankings after great starts to the current season.
The duo, who both have an ambition to race in the MotoGP one day, started their racing careers at M4 Karting in Hullavington at the Scott Redding Young Riders Academy.
At the recent Anglesey meeting of the North Gloucestershire Road Racing Series, Jay clinched a hat-trick of trophies riding his Aprilia RS125 bike, which is capable of speeds of up to 100mph. He is also top of the Formula 125 EMRA (East Midlands Racing Association) Championship after winning both the opening rounds.
Last season, Jay finished fourth in the British Mini GP70 class and reached the final stages of the inaugural British Talent Cup – a stepping stone for young British riders to make it in MotoGP – despite competing against lads up to four years older than himself.
His younger brother Sean, aged 11, is also showing great promise and has moved up to racing the MiniGP70 in the CoolFAB Racing British Minibikes Championship, taking 3rd overall at the first meeting.
The schedule of his sibling, Jay, is set to become even busier when he turns 13 in July and becomes eligible to compete in the Junior SuperSport 300 Series, part of British Superbikes, with a local race being at Thruxton in August.
The boys’ father, Mark, who is a motorbike training and car driving instructor, explained, “The Junior SuperSport 300 class is a massive step, and has taken some planning. It’s going to be a challenge, but a challenge that he’s looking forward to. The learning curve starts this year, with a view to being competitive in 2019.
“Also, both Jay and his brother Sean will be applying for the British Talent Cup again this year, hopefully with a good chance of being accepted for the trial.”
Both Jay and Sean rely on sponsorship to allow them to achieve this level of success in their sport.
Mark continued, “Even at this stage of their career you’re looking at an annual commitment of around £15,000 so any funding we get helps massively. The sponsorship we receive is crucial in helping to keep the boys on the track.
