Calling all garden lovers! Barters Nursery in Chapmanslade is holding a Summer Bonanza this weekend giving you the chance to see behind the scenes at this specialist nursery, meet the growers and pick up a bargain!
There are lots of things happening on both Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm, including ‘pick-your-own’ plants at trade prices, ‘plant-a-pot’ for Father’s Day, a chance to still buy vegetable plants, plus light refreshments will be on sale in aid of Dorothy House plus the chance to try locally made apple juice.
“Barters is a traditional family-run nursery, focusing on growing and selling plants,” said owners Diana and Legh Walker. “We offer a wide range of top quality plants which are grown on our own wholesale nursery in Chapmanslade.
“30 years ago when we purchased Barters we supplied many independent garden centres but many of these have been bought up by big groups now.
“Barters isn’t big enough to supply a large chain, so we now concentrate on supplying a wider customer base in the local area. This includes landscapers, garden designers, farm shops, golf courses, gardeners, schools, along with the general public with our retail outlet -Barters Plant Centre.
“Our emphasis is on service and inspiring people to use plants. Have you ever wondered where the plants are grown? Or what is involved in the growing of them? Our Nursery Open Weekend is an opportunity to see behind the scenes, meet the growers and support a local business.
“We are keen to source plants from local and regional growers for example, bedding plants from Somerset, herbs and heathers from the New Forest and fruit trees from Herefordshire.
“Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are always willing to give help and advice and our Summer Bonanza is an ideal time to visit.”
