THE future of the driving test centre in Westbury is under question as the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) prepare to release the results of a full review into testing provision in Wiltshire.
In 2017, White Horse News reported of concern from local driving instructors that wait times for a driving test in Westbury was nearing 15 weeks.
In response, the DVSA said that they will commission a full review into the testing provision for both Westbury and Trowbridge test centres, and the surrounding areas.
The DVSA said at the time, “The review will look at customer demand from in and around the area, the route suitability and what capacity we have in the surrounding centres.”
With no news on the results of the review, White Horse News approached the DVSA for an update.
Richard Hennessy, DVSA director of operations said, “DVSA’s priority is to help everyone through a lifetime of safe driving.
“After reviewing the provision of driving tests in rural Wiltshire and fully exploring all options, DVSA has considered ways to improve access to tests and is looking to finalise our plans in spring 2019.
“Until alternative testing provision can be finalised, we will continue to provide driving tests in Trowbridge and Westbury. Each of the temporary sites hosts two driving examiners twice a week, who travel from a main driving test centre to increase access to tests in west Wiltshire.”
