A Westbury care home was filled with music as one resident marked a very special birthday.
Violet Eirwen Cooke turned 100 on Wednesday, 19th March. Her family visited her at Westbury Court Care Home to celebrate the occasion.
Lucy Brooke, wellbeing co-ordinator at Westbury Court Care Home, said, “It was lovely to see Violet so happy with her family. She received lots of cards, including one from the King. Violet was playing the piano and singing hymns to her family, which the staff here also really enjoyed.”
Violet was the wife of Bill Cooke, former Baptist Minister in Bratton. Known as Eirwen to many, she has been deeply involved in the church community throughout her life.
The Cookes first came to Westbury in the 1980s when Bill became a minister at Westbury Leigh Church. Violet worked for Counties Evangelism in their local office and was also active in the pastoral side of church activities.
After several years in Westbury, Bill took on the pastorate of Bratton Chapel, where he oversaw important restoration work at the historic building. Throughout their years of church and community work, Violet’s Christian faith remained strong, and she always enjoyed being a member of the choir.
Lucy added, “Violet has a beautiful singing voice and can also play the piano. Throughout her time in the local area, she has formed many good and lasting friendships.”
