Shelter built to provide social area for teenagers in Bratton

A new shelter has been installed on the village green in Bratton to give teenagers a place to socialise.

The project was prompted by a village survey which highlighted the need for a safe space where young people could meet. It was funded by the Westbury Area Board and contributions from the housing development in the village.

“There is less provision for teenagers in the village than for younger children and the motivation for installing a shelter was to provide an attractive place in the centre of the village where teenagers can socialise when not using the play equipment on the green,” said parish councillor Cathy Elliott.

“There is a small committee of volunteers who inspect all areas of the green weekly, undertake repairs and apply for funding for new and replacement equipment.

“In this project, there was a huge amount of work required to accurately measure the site, dig deep holes and construct a concrete base before the shelter was installed.”

There was a minor delay in installation as part of the shelter had to be taken down and reoriented. It is now complete and already in use.
