A halloween party with a difference is coming to Westbury next weekend, as three-year-old Drae Mead-Strong takes centre stage at his very own Spooktacular Party.
Born with a rare genetic condition, Drae cannot walk, sit or support his own head, and his family have organised the party to raise funds for his ongoing care, specialist equipment and home adaptations.
The party, taking place on Saturday 1st November at Players on the West Wilts Trading Estate, promises a day packed with pumpkin carving, games, fancy dress and Halloween fun for both children and adults.
“The event will run from 3pm to 11pm, with the first few hours focused on the kids, with pumpkin carving, colouring activities, marshmallow toasting, sparklers, spooky games, treats and food,” said Rachel. “We will then head into the evening with disco and karaoke, adults Trick or Treat, Halloween cocktails and shots. It’s a family event so kids are also welcome in the evening. It’s going to be an amazing day and evening.
“The first prize for the best dressed child will win a two-hour pool float party and first prize for the best dressed adult will win a four-night safari tent at Haven Holiday in Seaview, Weymouth.”
Local businesses and residents have rallied around the family, donating raffle prizes, decorations and treats for the event.
“We have had a fantastic response,” added Rachel. “Local people and businesses have been amazing by donating prizes and the supplies needed to try and keep the cost down. Can I thank in particular Meads of Melksham, Challenge Tyres in Westbury, Mia’s Print Hive, Games Knight and the Sign Builder.”
And the fun doesn’t stop at Halloween. Another major event, Drae’s Christmas Wish, is already planned for Saturday 13th December, promising live music, stalls, fairground rides, pony rides, face painting, marshmallow toasting and a silent auction.
“Every donation, big or small, goes directly towards Drae’s care and making the most of the time we have together,” added Rachel. “Drae’s condition is progressive and we know his life will be short – we just want to make his time as happy, safe and comfortable as possible.”
