Singing group welcomes new members

A local singing group is encouraging new members to join as it begins rehearsals for the new season.

The Athenaeum Singers, based in Warminster, recently returned to rehearsals following a successful previous term, which included a critically acclaimed performance of Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius to a packed Bath Abbey, led by conductor Thomas Mottershead.

The group is now welcoming new members to rehearsals, which run every Tuesday from 6.30pm until 9.30pm at Christ Church.

“We enjoy a varied repertoire each term, offering both challenge and fun, and we typically stage three local concerts a year, alongside visits to local care homes at Christmas and in the summer,” said a spokesperson. “This term the choir’s music will be the much-loved Messiah (Handel) and Camille Saint-Saens’ Christmas Oratorio.”

The group is particularly keen to welcome tenors and basses, but all voices are welcome.

“While music reading skills are helpful, they are by no means essential – enthusiasm and a love of singing is what matters,” said the spokesperson.
