New hub opens to support Westbury families

A community hub has opened at Westbury Junior School, offering families a place to meet, access support and advice, attend workshops and find practical help. 

The WJS Family Hub officially opened on Thursday 17th September and has been designed as a welcoming space for parents, carers and pupils. 

It includes a kitchen, sofas and informal seating, as well as a second-hand school uniform service. It includes a dedicated space for courses, workshops, drop-in sessions and support services. 

The launch was attended by a range of community groups and services, including the local food bank, school nurse team and mental health support services, giving families the opportunity to find out more about the support available. 

Other local organisations and services will also be able to use the space free of charge where they can provide support that would benefit the school community. 

Headteacher Lindsay Clough said, “At Westbury Junior School, we know that children achieve their very best when families and schools work together. The WJS Family Hub reflects our commitment to supporting not only our pupils but their families too.  

“Whether parents are looking for practical advice, opportunities to learn new skills, or simply a friendly face and someone to talk to, we want every family to know that they are welcome and supported here.” 

The hub is being overseen by Assistant Headteacher Eleanor Flynn, with the school’s Family Support Worker Bev Hall organising events and drop-in sessions.
