JAZZ musician Scott Stroman has paid tribute to his youngest daughter after she was killed on a Westbury train line.
Mary Stroman has been named as the 16-year-old who lost her life after being struck by a train.
The teenager was reported missing by the people caring for her at a home near Westbury and police had begun a search when a train driver reported the incident.
Mary was the youngest of five children of Scott Stroman, a renowned jazz musician, composer and conductor, who was one of the most prominent figures in London’s jazz scene.
A family statement has said, “To all her friends and people who knew her, please remember Mary as a bright, clever and funny girl who was gentle and kind to everyone.
“Thank you to all of our family and friends who have supported, and are continuing to support us.”
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said they attended the scene of the accident along with firefighters and paramedics after the call was made by the driver of the Portsmouth-Cardiff service, and found Mary’s body on the line.
“Mary had injuries consistent with being hit by a train and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“The train involved was the 18.23 Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central service.”
Kathryn Pugh, headteacher at St Marylebone School where Mary attended said, “Our thoughts and prayers are for Mr and Mrs Stroman and for their other children who attended our school.”
A memorial service has been planned for Mary.
