LOCAL dog owner, Andrew Brooks, is urging people to be aware of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier that attacked his dog Buddy.
Andrew said, “I want everyone to be aware, and be cautious in Westbury while walking their dog or generally out and about. I don’t want this to happen to any other person’s dog, child or themselves in the future and feel a warning to all to be aware of this dog should be heard.
“This was in no way a provoked attack, Buddy wouldn’t take a chocolate bar from a child. This dog ran 350 metres up Haynes Road to attack Buddy for no reason. I thought the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was going to kill Buddy and I had no way of stopping the attack. The traffic stopped on Haynes Road as the bull terrier ran up the road towards me and Buddy. A lady got out of her car and helped me while the dog was savaging my dog’s throat (I would like to thank her for doing this).
“Buddy has puncture wounds to his legs, neck and throat. He is on a course on antibiotics and pain relief. So far the vet’s bill is £200 however the bill is not the issue, I am more concerned about Buddy’s welfare.
“I made the owner aware of Buddy’s injuries and have told him to muzzle his dog while out and to get a lead so he is able to better control him. Although this is the first time Buddy has been attacked by this dog, when they have seen each other in town, before Saturday, the gentleman has struggled to hold onto his dog, as the dog barked and tried to reach Buddy.
“After the attack Buddy, being a loveable dog, still managed to wag his tail at the lady, who had offered support, stroked him and I checked his wounds.
“My girlfriend will now not walk Buddy through town for fear of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.”
The police have been contacted and are aware of the incident.
