WESTBURY Leigh Primary School has been developing its school grounds with the help of staff, students and parents.
A team of staff have been reviewing and preparing the existing gardens so that they were ready for expansion. Staff, parents and children came into school on Saturday 7th June and started the refurbishment by tidying over grown areas and collapsing planters.
The complete refurbishment has opened out the gardening area and enabled additional plots to be drawn out, ready for each year group to plan and grow.
Children at the school have been busy with school grounds enterprise projects they have worked on with the help of parents.
All was revealed at the school’s 10th anniversary celebration on Friday 13th June where scarecrows, self-watering plants, a keyhole garden made from recycled tyres and a new sustainable planter for supplying the school kitchens, were on show. This was all in liaison with WISE (Wiltshire Inspire Sustainability Education) and the Global Education team in Wiltshire, as part of a global gardening project. The project focuses on recycling, sustainability, and working with the community.
As part of widening this community impact, some children were involved in planting bulbs on the grassy banks outside Leigh Park Community Centre.
An African picnic at Matravers School on Friday 18th July will celebrate the project and the achievements of the local schools.
