A woman who was out running was attacked by a large white dog within Westbury’s Grassacres Park, causing cuts and swelling to her arm.
The 20-year-old was injured on Tuesday 17th November, at around 7.30pm.
Westbury police say, “The dog was not on its lead and was not in control by its owner. Due to the size of the dog, it managed to reach as high as the female’s right arm and bite through her jacket. Fortunately, the injury was minor, neverthelesss, it was extremely frightening for the woman. If she was not wearing her jacket, then the injury could have been worse.
“After the attack, the dog’s owner tried to get the dog under control and said “Sorry” to the victim. The owner is described as being a white female who was wearing all black clothing.
“The dog was described as being large in size, with white woolly fur, similar to the breed of a labradoodle, and appeared to be of full adult age.”
Westbury Police have consulted with the council’s CCTV unit as there is a CCTV camera situated in Grassacres Park, and have been given confirmation that a dog can be seen running loose in the park at the time and day in question. What is most concerning for Westbury Neighbourhood Police, is that this dog was clearly not under control, and that this occurred adjacent to the children’s play park. If this was a child running or walking through the park, then the consequences could have been much worse.

The victim does not wish to press charges for what occurred, but it is imperative that this does not happen again.
