Charlie’s Bar in the market place, really is becoming the place to be for live entertainment in Westbury.

Listening to the bands and punters alike it would seem as though there is a real buzz about the place in the town.

‘The Full Motley’ who played there recently said about their gig, “It has to be the best gig we have ever done, fantastic audience! A great atmosphere!”   Those who were there will remember it was packed to the rafters, and those that couldn’t stand the heat were dancing in the street outside!

A recent weekend saw another two cracking nights in Charlie’s with the fantastic Black Widow, Charmaine, their talented singer said, “This is the second time we have played here and we look forward to doing it again as it’s a brilliant little venue!”

Westbury’s Antigua Joe also recently packed the place out for the second Saturday in a row with his reggae party atmosphere show. The next month in Charlie’s will bring a wide range of artists from original to cover bands – check the billboard for more information. Starting with Warminster’s Duke Box cover band, a double header of Frome’s Black Forge & Gloucester’s Death Bullet. The Following weekend brings an up and coming young, recently signed band from Southampton called Flashfires. With an Indie/pop/rock sound the fresh faced lads will also probably be getting the ladies hot under the collar!

The same night supporting Flashfires is another great up and coming local solo talent from Bristol called Luke De-Sciscio, Luke will be promoting his new album recently launched in the UK. Both artists will also be supporting the local charity festival Rock Diabetes as this is billed as one of the warm up shows.

Charlie’s Bar continue their support of the Rock Diabetes festival by hosting another warm up show on Bank Holiday Sunday 24th August. This time it’s an all-day gig, there will be four bands playing throughout the day, including a barbecue, music quiz and lots of other fun going on during the day. Bands confirmed for this show so far are Wings of Forever, Kaine and Toledo Steel.

Karen from Charlie’s admits though that they are really excited by what’s coming up at the end of the month and early September. She said, “We have managed to secure a gig with a real pro and seasoned musician in Jo Burt on 29th August.

“Jo has been there and done it all musically. He was a member of Black Sabbath, The Troggs, and the Tom Robinson Band, he has also toured and performed with Freddie Mercury, Bob Geldof, Roger Taylor! Wow, and now he is coming to play little old Charlie’s.”

Karen then mentions the return of a fantastic band that played Charlie’s a few months ago and caused an absolute storm. She said,  “Stop! Stop! are back at Charlie’s on the 6th September, none of us can wait, they are amazing, full on Glam Rock and fantastic showmen, Stop! Stop! are from Spain and are a lovely bunch of guys, anyone that hasn’t seen them needs to, they are completely brilliant !!”

Charlie’s Laura said, “Looking at our billboard each month and seeing all the fantastic bands coming up is brilliant, This month I can’t wait! We’ve got some crackers!”

Also during August other bands that feature are Shades of Blue, Iago, Rocked & Loaded & Broken Silence. To see the full billboard for the month see the posters in the windows, check out Charlie’s Facebook or log on to their website.

Charlie’s is also the home of Tom Rockliffe’s acoustic open mic night, held every Tuesday and on Thursday’s it Karaoke night.

So if you love your live music, Charlie’s is definitely the place to go!
