MEMBERS of the Active Retirement Club (ARC) of Westbury recently enjoyed their annual festive lunch at the Farmhouse Pub in Southwick, which also presented the opportunity to gift the outgoing club chairman, Bruce Hewitson, with a present for his contribution over the years.
Treasurer, Peter Jane, presented Bruce with a fine glass tankard from the members which was inscribed with his dates of service from 2017 to 2023. ARC members are looking forward to what 2024 has in store for the club with many interesting presentations and social events planned.
Coming up this year: an ex Royal Air Force navigator will present a talk on ‘Operation Chastise’ (The Dambusters) and we have a lady toastmaster and a fishmonger with over 50 years’ experience who will each expound on their experiences in their chosen professions, with doubtless many amusing anecdotes.
There are also plans for a visit to the Chinese garden and Beggars Knoll in Westbury along with quizzes and quarterly lunches throughout the year.
The next meeting will take place at the United Reformed Church Hall on Tuesday 9th January. Guests can enjoy two free club meetings before deciding if they wish to join. Membership costs £10 a month. If you would like to join the ARC or would like to find out more, please call Mark on 01373 823836.
