Members of the Active Retirement Club of Westbury assembled for their quarterly lunch at Westbury Golf Club on Tuesday 3rd March 3rd.
They report, “Not only did everyone enjoy a splendid roast dinner and choice of deserts, including fresh fruit pavlova, lemon roulade with cream or profiteroles with chocolate sauce, but also the chance to get to know fellow members a little better in such a relaxed setting. This ever-popular social event also included a generous raffle.
“We also looked forward to forthcoming events. On the 17th March Dr Francis Burroughs will present his talk on the ‘Wonderful World of Glass’. You only have to listen to the Antique Roadshow’s resident glass expert to realise how someone with an in-depth knowledge can really bring their subject to life. Dr Burroughs is well qualified to do just this and his opinions and advice are frequently sought. He will also bring items from his private collection to illustrate his talk.
“On March 31st we meet at the Horse and Groom Pub. After being suitably refreshed with coffee and a biscuit or three, we move to the skittle alley where we demonstrate our skills and flexibility to each other, (with mixed results!) Some of us view this as our substitute for a visit to the gym. The added bonus for those that wish to, is to reassemble in the pub for a light lunch before tackling the rest of the day, each in our own way.
“Anyone wishing to join us only has to make contact through our website, arc westbury .co.uk. You’ll be welcome to come along and experience the friendly atmosphere and maybe wonder why you haven’t visited us already.”
