THE Active Retirement Club of Westbury recently presented a cheque of £200 to the local Sue Ryder shop in town.
On the 12th May, Bruce Hewitson and Peter Jane from the ARC presented the manager of the shop, Mrs Taylor, with a large £200 cheque to help support the charity shop that relies on charitable donations such as this.
Sue Ryder has over 400 shops across the UK which are packed with an eclectic mix of treasures – from clothes to furniture, musical instruments to wedding dresses. It is thanks to the generosity of the public who donate money and their unwanted items and the team of volunteers who give their time that Sue Ryder is able to provide more care to more people through Sue Ryder’s bereavement, palliative and neurological services.
A spokesperson for the ARC said, “Sue Ryder supports people through the most difficult times of their lives, whether that’s a terminal illness, bereavement or a neurological condition. For over 65 years the Sue Ryder doctors, nurses and carers have given people the compassion and expert care they need to help them live the best life they possibly can.”
ARC’s next meeting, following the AGM on the 3rd May, will be a talk about ‘Orca, the Sea Wolf’ on the 31st May at the Horse and Groom pub in Westbury. Guests can enjoy two club meetings for free before deciding if they want to join. Membership costs £10 a month. If you would like to join ARC, or would like to find out more please call Mark on 01373 823 826.
