WESTBURY Lions’ eighth annual Donkey Derby took place on Sunday, with the races bringing plenty of drama, excitement, and fun to jockeys and spectators at the White Horse Country Park.
Crowds cheered on the young jockeys in each of the eight races, with a final race featuring the winning jockeys of the previous races. In between races, there were donkey rides for the younger children. There were also plenty of activities and stalls running alongside the races.
Westbury Lions’ president David Firth said, “It was a fantastic occasion. We believe we had more people turn out than last year – probably helped by the good weather!
“We were excellently supported by the Westbury community as always and at the moment we think we have raised around the £3,000 mark. Around 90% of this will go towards local charities and projects.
“The happy faces on the children prove how successful the event was.”
