History will come alive with an immersive experience taking place at the Athenæum this Sunday, 30th August.
It’s a chance to explore the theatre at your own pace, uncovering its rich Victorian history by solving puzzles and questioning in-character historical figures to find clues. And it will be running alongside Warminster’s late Summer Street Market.
“The event has an ‘escape room’ vibe, with immersive theatre and historical characters to help guide you,” said Jon Ellis from the Athenæum. “On starting your mission, you will be set on your way to search the building for clues and solve puzzles – all based on the rich history of the Athenæum.
“You will work your way around different locations within the building where you will uncover your quests and encounter historical characters who may have secrets to reveal.
“There is no set time-frame, you are free to work your way through this experience at your own pace. Sessions will start approximately every 15 minutes, and you can expect to complete within an hour, just in time to grab some refreshments in the Function Room!
“In-costume characters will be on hand to help you, but you will need to challenge them to find your answers! Every 30 minutes or so, all the characters will come together where you might pick up more clues to help you on your way…”
You will be fully briefed before starting and can either complete on paper or electronically via QR code. It is suitable for all ages, families or groups, or even just challenge yourself. You can choose your start time-slot between 10:30am and 3:30pm throughout the day.
“It’s a great way to learn more about the history of the Athenæum which has been a central feature of Warminster life since Victorian times, with a long and varied history,” added Jon. “You’ll be amazed at what you’ll uncover and learn about this fascinating building.
“This event is bought to you by ‘Live History’ – an award-nominated international touring theatre company who produce site specific, customizable mysteries around the world. They are bringing their incredible interactive mystery theatre event to the Athenæum on the 30th August which will run alongside Warminster’s popular late Summer Street Market!”
