Artwork from pupils at Bitham Brook Primary School is now on display in the Phone Box Gallery located in the Market Place.
Pupils from all key stages, from Reception to Year 6, have showcased their artwork. “The children at Bitham Brook have been thoroughly enthusiastic and engaged in their art lessons during the first half of the Autumn Term. The whole school has been focused on developing their drawing skills,” said Reception teacher, Ruth Kennedy.
“The Reception pupils explored painting in their first few weeks at school before moving on to study the work of the illustrator Axel Scheffler and then drawing their self-portraits, whilst Years 1 and 2 have been experimenting with mark making to help create texture in their drawings.
“Year 3 focused on combining techniques to create texture and shape, and successfully learned to use the techniques of contour shading and stippling. Year 4 has been looking at the work of Van Gogh and various still-life artists, including Cezanne.
“Year 5 was focused on creating an abstract representation of landscapes, working with pastels, whilst learning to use the techniques of feathering, scumbling, and blending. Year 6 focused on creating self-portraits to reflect their own personalities.
“We hope you will take the time to visit the Art Phone Box Gallery and see how well the children have done!”
Westbury Town Council adopted the red phone box in the Market Place in 2018 and converted it into a gallery. The gallery has showcased a variety of artwork contributed by local schools and artists, with displays regularly updated.
