A YOUNG rugby player from Westbury has been awarded a special silver Blue Peter badge for his efforts to help other children learn key rugby skills.
Five-year old Hugo I’Anson entered into the Rugbytots leadership programme and his mum, Sally, says that the programme has allowed him to step out of his shell as he embraced his new responsibilities. The silver Blue Peter badge is awarded to those that show individual acts of kindness or help others in their community.
“I liked helping the little children and being called ‘coach Hugo’ and I was so excited when I got my Blue Peter badge – it sparkles and I liked showing it off at school!.” said Hugo.
His mum added, “The leadership programme was a fantastic opportunity for Hugo, who is shy and lacks self-confidence. He was so excited to help the younger children and coaches and loved being ‘Coach Hugo’ which made him feel so proud; it has been a huge boost to his self-esteem, giving him the confidence to join in more in his regular classes.”
The Rugbytots club said, “Hugo is a Rugbytots leader and he has been awarded an extremely special Blue Peter silver badge for his achievement! We couldn’t be prouder.”
Rugbytots is a rugby initiative which offers dynamic weekly play sessions in Frome for boys and girls aged two to seven.
