The Westbury Family History Group welcomes Dennis Gardner on Thursday 26th May, who will give a talk about the firm of R & J Reeves & Son, otherwise known as the Bratton Iron Works.
The firm achieved national and international fame, exhibiting at the Great Exhibition in the Crystal Palace in 1851, but went into receivership in 1970.
The site of the iron works stood on what is now Bratton village green, beside the Duke but the buildings were demolished in 1973. Dennis will explain about the development of the firm through the Reeves family, the layout of the works inside and out, and the considerable variety of the implements that they produced using his comprehensive collection of slides, plus a number of other artefacts that can be seen and handled by the audience.
The Westbury Family History Group meets every fourth Thursday of the month at 7.15pm in the foyer of Westbury’s Methodist Church. The branch has regular interesting and informative talks and discussions by members and guest speakers on all aspects of family history and general history.
