Champion boxer joins Westbury United for winning FA Cup start

Westbury boxing champion Megan Redstall brought her championship belts to Platinum Hyundai Park on Saturday as Westbury United began their new season with a 3-0 FA Cup victory. 

Megan, who is the WBO International Flyweight Champion and Commonwealth Bantamweight Champion, was a special guest for United’s first competitive match of the 2026/27 season against Hythe & Dibden. 

She brought her belts along for supporters to see and helped unveil the club’s new 2026/27 away kit, wearing the new maroon shirt for the occasion. 

Megan was also presented with her own Westbury United home kit by joint managers Ricky Hulbert and Lewis Porter. 

“Thank you having me! Pleasure to be there and support the team,” said Megan. 

There was further reason for celebration on the pitch as Westbury secured a convincing win over their Wessex League opponents in the Extra Preliminary Round tie. 

Brad Selwood opened the scoring in the 31st minute with a neat turn before slotting low into the bottom corner to send the home side in 1-0 up at half-time.  

Westbury doubled their advantage 10 minutes after the restart when Leighton Thomas powered the ball into the roof of the net.  

Thomas then completed the scoring in the 85th minute to secure a 3-0 victory and send Westbury through to the next round of the FA Cup where they will travel to AFC Portchester on Saturday 22nd August.  

United now turn their attention to the Southern Football League, with their opening fixture taking them away to newly promoted Portland United on Tuesday evening with the game kicking off after White Horse News has gone to press. 

This is followed by their first home league game on Saturday 15th August against Tiverton Town.
