WESTBURY played local rivals in Chippenham on Saturday 15th July, hoping to beat them for the second time this season.
Having won the toss the Westbury captain decided to bowl first on a green looking pitch that looked difficult for batting on.
This proved to be a wise decision as the Westbury bowlers set about their task with positive intent. Despite a couple of early boundaries, Oakley quickly dismissed the dangerous looking Narayan and he was swiftly followed by Merryweather who had struck some quick runs up front.
Westbury were very much on top as the middle order was exposed with the Chippenham captain, Jones, proving to be the only batsmen of any substance.
More wickets followed as the home side slid to 74-6 and a rout was looking likely.
The Chippenham lower order however dug in, in order for the Jones to pass his 50 and whilst the runs were not being racked up he was supported enough to reach 67 before they were bowled out for 145. The pick of the bowlers were Oakley for this 4-43 and Mills for finishing off the tail with 4-13.
After tea was taken Westbury set about their reply, in still tricky conditions, with positive intent.
Both openers, Whiting and Coles batted confidently and struck regular boundaries until Whiting chased a wide delivery from Ward and was caught behind with the score on 32.
Gill and Dickinson then succumbed to gentle but tricky away swing of Ward and they were both caught in the slips off of the same bowler, which left Westbury on 44-3.
The in-form Mills then came to the middle and set about his business with a calming assuredness and the end total was soon insight.
Having passed his 50, Coles then decided that he had seen enough and went on the attack, with particular punishment being delivered to Narayan who was his out of the ground on more than one occasion.
With the result expedited, Westbury went past the required score in the 31st over and picked up 19 points. Coles finished on 87 not out and Mills 32 not out, who accumulated a 101 run partnership to win the game.
