Westbury’s injury crisis and player unavailability left them down to the bare bones and despite the result the young team did themselves proud.
This was summed up by Nathan Hallett-Young sustaining a further injury in the warm up! There were encouraging performances from teenagers Adam Kenich, Joe Cavalla, Matty Mantay and Zayn Alime.
Chippenham started brightly under warm sunshine on the perfect Hardenhuish pitch, going close through Lewis McCarron and Mark Robinson.
Cavalla and Mantay were involved in several fine moves which had no end product while Mike Coll headed over at a set piece; however Park stepped up the pace towards half time but found Charlie Heydon in fine form to deny Robinson and McCarron.
Conditions changed at the break and United found themselves playing up the slope into driving rain and wind. That had nothing to do with the opening of the half though which saw the hosts score 3 goals in 9 minutes. McCarron set up Darrin Moss who powered in the opener on 46, Garry Lock’s deep ball fell to Robert Burton and he finished from 20 yards to double the lead on 49 and, with Westbury struggling, Jamie Norman arrived to head in McCarron’s 54th minute cross.
To their great credit United got their passing going and really should have got a goal back but there were no clear cut opportunities, although Alime twice, Chris Gait and James Hounsell had attempts.
Moss completed the scoring on 70 with a long range finish and Chippenham could have added more goals but wayward finishing cost them.
