Westbury Choral Society is in the final stages of rehearsal for its Spring Concert at All Saints Parish Church next Saturday, 8th April, at 7.30pm.
Having recently welcomed several new members, and now numbering 40, the choir will present a programme of choral music spanning four centuries.
The main work, appropriate for the week before Easter, will be Victorian composer Sir John Stainer’s well known work for choir, soloists and congregation, ‘The Crucifixion’.
This will be preceded by two pieces from the baroque era – Pergolesi’s Magnificat and Handel’s coronation anthem ‘The King shall Rejoice’, together with some short contemporary works by John Tavener and Philip Stopford.
The choir will sing under the baton of its conductor, Luke Pickett, with Rob Danter accompanying on organ and piano. Soloists in ‘The Crucifixion’ will be tenor Mark Hounsell and bass Graham Dalby.
Tickets cost £9 each (accompanying children free) and will be available at Westbury Visitor Centre, from choral society members or at the door.
