Wed. 6th November. Toolstation Prem. Div. Westbury Utd 4 Bridport 0
This was an all-round good performance and comfortable victory for Westbury, to follow up the 6-2 win at Keynsham.
United looked like scoring every time they attacked and it was only through a few spells of sloppiness in each half that Bridport found sight of goal.
Visiting keeper, Shaun Wells-Burr, had already saved from Jamie Jordan before Callum Demkiv broke through and finished excellently to open the scoring on 12 minutes.
Wells-Burr denied Demkiv with a fine leg save, then Sam Jordan set up Joe Stradling whose effort was blocked . The ever-impressive Ryan Bole swung the resulting corner into the side netting.
Sam Jordan was off target twice in quick succession around the half hour, the second of these chances came after Wells-Burr had made a point blank save.
The deserved second goal came on 39. A brilliant ball by Jordan Pinder sent Demkiv running free again and he found Wells-Burr in fine form. This time Jamie Jordan took the corner and Bole arrived unmarked to finish with his right foot.
Westbury gave the ball away several times as the break approached, allowing chances for Stephen Friend and Joe Charles, which were saved by Baldy and put wide respectively.
The customary matchday rain began at half time. Demkiv was to the fore straight after the restart. He had a 20-yard attempt deflected wide, then sent in a fizzing cross which was just too far ahead of his fellow strikers. In a rare attack at the other end, Ryan Dovell’s low free kick was saved by Baldy, but it seemed only a matter of time until the hosts extended their lead and it became 3-0 on 62 when Bole’s accurate delivery was touched in by Ricky Hulbert.
Further chances came and went as Bole and Jamie Jordan combined to set up Stradling, whose finish found the side netting. Then a pacy move by the front three saw Demkiv’s drive deflected just past the post. Bole’s resulting corner was headed by Sam Jordan and cleared off the line.
Bridport got up the other end and Friend headed narrowly wide, but no comeback was to be on the cards as Demkiv sent in another great cross to Stradling and he directed a fine header past Wells-Burr to complete the scoring on 73. Demkiv, Ricky Hulbert, Stradling and Bole all had opportunities to add a 5th in the closing stages, but were either off target or found Wells-Burr still in determined mood!
