Volunteers from across Westbury have been knitting and crocheting colourful bunting to be installed throughout the town during Westbury Festival.
Members of the Westbury Yarn Bombers, along with people from other local groups and businesses, have so far created more than 500 individual flags. Residents at Westbury Court Care Home have also created bunting during their knit and natter sessions.
“I’m pleased to say we have lots of bunting flags already and this is thanks to so many wonderfully talented volunteers who have taken part in this project,” said Westbury Yarn Bombers founder Marisa Befoh, who is co-ordinating the project. “Their creativity is amazing.”
Chair of Westbury Festival Lisa McGowan said, “The aim of the Westbury Festival is to bring our community together, and this project has definitely achieved that.
“It’s been wonderful to see so many people of all ages getting involved, from the Yarn Bombers and festival volunteers to local businesses and residents at Westbury Court Care Home. The enthusiasm, creativity and generosity shown by everyone involved have been truly inspiring.
“We hope the decorations will bring a smile to people’s faces and create a real sense of celebration throughout the festival period. We’d like to thank everyone who has contributed their time and talents to make it happen, with a special thank you to Marisa for co-ordinating.”
The bunting will be installed later this month and will remain throughout the Westbury Festival, which runs from Monday 13th July to Sunday 26th July.
