Westbury Community Fridge has added an extra weekly opening day, giving residents more opportunities to access free food.
The fridge, based at Westbury Community Project on Eden Vale Road, is now open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10.30am to 11.15am.
“When the Community Fridge at Leigh Park Community Centre closed early in the new year, the trustees at Westbury Area Network (WAN) decided to keep on the additional collections of supermarket charity donations that we had established and use these donations at the community fridge at the Westbury Community Project,” said WAN trustee Ian Cooper. “We know from experience that it takes time to build up the various collections.
“Because of the volume of these donations, WAN decided to open the facility at Eden Vale Road on an extra day. Our volunteers suggested the additional opening day and have made sure that the four days opening can be properly covered.
“WAN would still like to have a second site open in the Leigh Park area and the search for a suitable location is continuing as we know that the facility in that area was well used.”
The initiative redistributes surplus produce from local supermarkets and is open to everyone at no cost.
