PLANS have been submitted to convert a former takeaway in the Market Place to provide additional space for existing residential accommodation at the building.
The Grade II listed building, at 25 and 26 Market Place, is currently divided into a retail unit with residential dwellings above and to the rear. The retail unit has been vacant since 2019, following the closure of the Olympia pizza takeaway.
The proposal aims to change the use of the retail space to residential and convert the existing ground floor retail unit to provide more accommodation.
According to the heritage statement, a report which includes an assessment of the significance of historical buildings, the Grade II listed building was historically two properties built in the 18th Century and later amalgamated into one. The building operated as a convenience store in the 1970s and ‘80s before becoming a takeaway in the ‘90s.
The statement says the shop area has been advertised for over a year with ‘no significant interest.’
The plans can be viewed on Wiltshire Council’s planning portal https://development.wiltshire.gov.uk/pr/s/ by searching application number PL/2024/04379. The deadline for comments to be submitted is 28th June.
