Are you someone who sings along to the radio when hearing your favourite tune?
Are you a secret Pavarotti singing ‘Nessum Dorma’ in the shower when no one is listening? If so then current members would love to see you at Corsley Festival Choir!
Peter Bennett, on behalf of Corsley Choir explains, “The Choir has been through difficult times this year because we are not seeing new people joining us as the older members retire.
“This is not a problem solely of our choir – it is a problem affecting all choirs from the great Welsh Male Voice Choirs down to the humble local community choirs.
“Corsley Choir was due to close down after their Christmas Concert this year, but the enthusiasm of the remaining choir members prevented this happening, and a new committee was formed under the expert chairmanship of Clare Bayman.
“Rehearsals are every Monday evening at 7.45pm until 9.15pm, but if you can’t attend every one it is not a problem, as the concert is not until May.
“The good number of rehearsals leading up to each concert allows time for tuition and coaching of those not familiar with the music. The choir also has enough experienced singers to guide the newer members, so there is no fear of embarrassment.
“We are privileged to have the benefit of a hugely experienced choir master – Stephen Smith – and a great accompanist at the keyboard in Liz Koslowski. Between them they expertly teach and guide the choir though the difficulties put forward by each new musical piece we attempt.
“A ‘good sing’ every week is a great stress reliever, and the thrill of singing with the choir, an orchestra and soloists in the fabulous church at our concerts is just awesome!
“Our concert in May will be a bit different – we are celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday. The first half concert will include pieces by Handel, Parry and Mozart with a Coronation connection, and the second half will include ‘Last Night at the Proms’ favourites.
“So why not give it a try – without any commitment – Phone Jenny Rutty on 01373 832232 if you want any further information.”
