THE successful Wiltshire Air Ambulance charity shop in Westbury needs more volunteers.
Thanks to the generosity of the public in donating items, the hard-working team of volunteers now need more people to help them.
Carrie Aldous, manager of the shop in Maristow Street said, “We have such great support from the people of Westbury and beyond who donate items for the shop. The support has grown each year and we have dozens of bags of items being donated each week.
“We currently have 18 volunteers, but we would like another seven or so to help spread the workload. Our volunteers are very dedicated and we’d love for more people to join us. People can volunteer as much or as little as they want, whether that is a few hours a week, or a few days. The funds raised by the shop help to keep Wiltshire Air Ambulance flying and saving lives.”
Volunteers are needed in Westbury, in particular, to sort through the donated items. Other roles include preparing items to be sold and serving customers.
The Westbury shop is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 4.30pm except Tuesday which is 9am to 4pm.
In March it celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Elaine Cox, one of the existing volunteers and who has worked at the shop since it opened in 1998 said, “I enjoy working here, you meet loads of different people and it’s all for a good cause.”
Don Burden, who has been volunteering since last March said, “I help to sort items and serve customers – wherever I’m needed. It’s busy and we have a good laugh.”
