WILTSHIRE Council is expected to decide this week on whether they will allow a 45-hectare solar farm to be built on Brook Hall Farm, just north of the West Wilts Trading Estate.
The most recent planning application (this is the second time Brook Hall Solar have applied for permission) was received in June this year. County planning officers are expected to announce their decision this Thursday 11th September.
The proposed installation could produce 10MW of electricity – enough to power around 3,000 homes. 24 acres of solar panels would be situated on just over 111 acres of farmland located between Westbury, Hawkeridge and North Bradley.
The design statement for the installation argues that it is in a good location because it is well screened and isolated from surrounding developments, the fields do not contain a lot of wildlife likely to be affected, and the area has good transport links.
Permission was recently granted for a 5MW solar farm to be built in Southwick, and a third is still yet to be decided.
