Due to holidays, there were fewer members than usual at the August meeting, but nonetheless members heard a very interesting talk about Julia’s House hospice.
This organisation, which originally was just based in Poole, now also has a hospice in Devizes. The team is able to provide practical and emotional support, comfort and care to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and their wider family.
Members heard how about 65% of the hospice’s care is carried out in the community, with other care being provided actually within the hospices. The hospices are often the only places away from home where parents feel confident leaving their child, giving them precious respite.
In contrast to this emotive topic, the speaker at the next meeting on 12th September will be talking on ‘Interesting Ways with Herbs’.
The recent cake stall held at the Lark Rise Fair was very successful, and arrangements for the forthcoming Flower and Handicraft Show event in the Memorial Hall on 10th August were shared. A discussion took place about the forthcoming programme, which is likely to be very interesting and varied. As usual, an invitation is extended to anyone who would like to attend a meeting as a visitor. Come and see what today’s WI is all about!
