Tues. 1st Sept. FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Westbury United 0 Binfield
Hellenic League Binfield advanced into the next round with this combative victory in perfect conditions at Meadow Lane.
Both teams struggled to get going in a scrappy, sometimes tetchy first half. If anything United were the better side with visiting keeper Chris Grace doing well to save from Callum Demkiv and Joe Stradling. Ricky Hulbert put a near post header just wide when Jamie Jordan had whipped in a set piece.
The visitors had a few spells of pressure with Dan Price and Scott Gregory defending well at the resulting corners. The closest they came was when Jamie Gregory gave the ball away, allowing Ollie Harris a shot which went past the post.
Binfield were a different side after half time, right up for it and on top from the start and they opened the scoring on 51 when Sean Moore got in behind the home defence and crossed to the onrushing Jack Thomson-Wheeler who swept the ball into the net.
Demkiv was at the heart of United’s best moments and he showed good skill if not a finishing touch just after the hour, Grace parrying the ball away from danger. After Binfield went close to doubling their lead it was Demkiv who threatened again on 76 when his pacy cross was touched on by Grace with two follow up attempts not finding the net!
Binfield made the game safe at a corner on 80 with a powerful header scored by Tom Willmott.
Home striker Sam Jordan headed narrowly wide in the closing minutes but then saw a straight red card for a poor challenge!
