The gym at Leighton Recreation Centre is set to undergo a refurbishment this month, with plans to install new equipment and carry out a full upgrade of the facilities.
Starting Friday 19th September, the refurbishment will include a reconfigured fitness layout, with cardio equipment on the ground floor and resistance and strength training on the first floor, as well as new fitness equipment, new flooring, full redecoration, and upgraded air conditioning.
To carry out these improvements, the gym will be temporarily closed for approximately five weeks. However, the rest of the centre will remain open, and group exercise classes will continue as normal, with additional sessions being added to offer greater flexibility for users.
All leisure memberships enable the holder to access all 20 council operated sites, meaning users can access alternative gym facilities at nearby centres whilst Leighton Recreation Centre is unavailable.
Cllr Mel Jacob, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for Public Health, Leisure, Libraries and Communities, said, “We’ve made significant investments in our fitness facilities in recent years, and many residents are already enjoying the benefits of modernised spaces and top-of-the-range equipment. We’re excited that Leighton Recreation Centre users will soon enjoy these same enhancements.
“We’re committed to helping people live healthier lives. Staying physically, socially, and mentally active plays a vital role in managing weight and reducing the risk of disease.
“While we understand the temporary gym closure may cause some inconvenience, we hope users will take advantage of our other nearby facilities. We’re confident the end result will be well worth the wait.”
To compensate centre members for any inconvenience caused during the fitness suite closure, a reduction will be applied to the October direct debit payment.
