Fundraisers are celebrating the success of a Westbury charity shop which has received thousands of bags of donations.
Barnardo’s opened a new store in Palomino Place in Leigh Park, near the Tesco Express in January 2016.
Since then the charity has received more than 3,000 bags of clothing, accessories, homeware, books, toys and games.
Barnardo’s has also been supported by a group of hardworking volunteers who contributed more than 3,100 hours to help with sorting the stock and serving the customers.
The team celebrated their success by cutting a specially-decorated cake last month.
Sherridan Wilkinson, Branch Retail Manager, said, “We wanted to arrange a special thank-you for everyone who has worked so hard during our first year.
“We have an amazing team of eight volunteers aged from 17 to 70 years old who offer so much of their own time.
“Every hour is sincerely appreciated but we would welcome more support from anyone who can spare just a few hours a week.
“I was amazed when I realised the volume of donations received since opening. It’s a sign of people’s generosity and support. We’ve also signed almost 300 Gift Aid donors which means we can make even more money from each sale.
“We will gratefully receive all good-quality items which can be re-sold to support the charity’s work with the UK’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children.”
The Westbury store is open Monday to Saturday from 9am-5pm and Sunday from 10am-4pm. There are still vacancies for potential volunteers to join. Call (01373) 822515.
