WESTBURY Infant School’s headteacher, Jan Ball, is leaving at the end of this term, after almost 15 years in the post.
Jan arrived at the school in 1999, having been seconded as acting headteacher and was soon offered the permanent position.
She is leaving the school on 4th April to spend some more time with her family and hobbies. Jan would also like to begin work in the field of child advocacy.
Jan said that over the years she was immensely proud of all the areas in the school, but was particularly pleased with the setting up of a resource centre for children with complex learning needs.
There are at present eight children in the school who use the resource centre, and they are able to be taught and helped in the best available environment. This includes a sensory room which was actually funded by the grandfather of one of the pupils who collected funds from his local pub.
The school has received an ‘Outstanding’ award from Ofsted for its work in integrating complex needs children with the rest of the school.
Jan explained that the most important thing throughout the school is that all the staff feel that they must do the best for every single child, and help them to realise their full potential
The outgoing headteacher said, “Everything I have achieved has been down not just to me, but to the fantastic help and support I have received from all the staff and governors working together. I would also like to thank the local businesses and charities for their generous help and support which has been freely offered whenever requested.”
A new headteacher for Westbury Infant School, Stacey Budge, will join the school from Ilfracombe in Devon at the start of the summer term.
