WESTBURY Cricket Club Ladies recently held their annual festival at Leighton Recreation Centre.
The club reports, “Westbury faced Heytesbury & Sutton Veny CC, Royal Wootton Bassett CC and Marshfield CC. The first two games were a close call, but Westbury came out on top both times. The third and final match rounded off the day perfectly for the ladies as they scored a massive 128 runs without losing a single wicket on their way to a convincing win; a first for the team but an achievement that they are keen to replicate!
“Throughout the day, tickets were sold for a raffle to raise funds for the club which the ladies and their supporters had donated prizes to. A special mention goes to our super-hero mascot, Jamie, who was there supporting the team all day despite the heat.
“We raised a brilliant £179 from their bake sale, for Jamie to donate to a charity of his choice. Jamie decided to donate this to Young Lives Vs Cancer who have been an unwavering support for him during his diagnosis and treatment.
“Finally, the ladies would like to thank everyone who was involved, not only the other teams who participated, but to the volunteers, coaches and those behind the scenes for making it such a memorable occasion.”
Westbury Ladies train every week on Tuesday evenings at Leighton Recreation Centre at 7pm and are always looking for new players. All ages and abilities are welcome.
