A NEW Sunday league Westbury football team created during this year’s lockdown played its first game against Warminster Athletic.
Westbury Celtic FC was formed by the now-team-manager Zac Pearce asking the simple question on his friends’ online group chat, “should we start a Sunday football team?”.
Zac told White Horse News, “It was very naive of me to think it is just that easy! It took many months and a lot of help from Westbury United legend Marc Lanfear as the chairman of club. The name Westbury Celtic came from the liquidation of Westbury Rangers, as we hope to replicate their success with 50 years in Sunday league.”
The team has a logo and has a kit coming soon and will be competing in the Chippenham and District division 2 for next season.
Zac said, “On Sunday (May 30th) we played against Warminster Athletic and we couldn’t have had a worse start; going 1-0 down in the first minute! The final score was 2-2 after going 2-0 down.”
