Sat. 8th Feb. Toolstation League Prem. Div. Westbury United 4 Chipping Sodbury 1
A first home win for three months for United and a much-needed boost for the Meadow Lane crowd!
On the back of the same scoreline a week earlier, this result signalled a significant return to form.
Ryan Bole, playing in attack like at Cadbury Heath where he also found the net, opened the scoring with a composed finish after just 6 minutes.
United came close to doubling their lead on 15 when Dan Price headed Bole’s corner against the crossbar.
Bole thought he had doubled Westbury’s lead on 22 but his goal was disallowed for handball.
The hosts had to defend strongly to deny Sodbury any clear cut chances. The visitors had plenty of possession, but found home skipper Steve Hulbert in fine form.
It remained 1-0 at half time then United got their reward for defending well when the hard working Jordan Pinder’s header made it 2-0 on 51. Pinder had already brought a superb save out of Dan Brown.
Stradling, Pinder and Demkiv all went close to adding a 3rd before the latter got his name on the scoresheet on 74, by bundling the ball over the line from Lee Salter’s cross.
However just a minute later Ed Baldy erred and gifted Laurie Hayworth a goal. Sodbury then sensed unnecessary panic in the home back line and Bole did very well to clear a Hayworth attempt off the line.
Brown made a tremendous save to deny Demkiv in injury time, then Bole’s corner was headed in powerfully by Price to make it 4-1, after which the referee immediately blew the final whistle.
