WESTBURY lost their unbeaten start to the season at the Poplar Insulation Stadium due to an injury time wonder strike from Brislington centre midfielder Miller.
Brislington started the brighter and it took a Dan Price header off the line after a shot was drilled in from a Brislington short corner to keep the score at 0-0. Brislington took advantage of their strong start when Draper sent a cross field pass to the right boot of Simpson, his first touch was excellent and the finish was unstoppable, across the face of Bowden into the far side netting. The goal kick started Westbury with Stradling hitting the post and Ricky Hulbert having a powerful left footed shot saved before halftime.
Price was replaced by Dan Jordan at half time to add to Westbury’s injury woes. Fifteen minutes into the second half Westbury were level, Jamie Jordan with an out swinging corner which was only half cleared as far as Steve Hulbert, Hulbert controlled and fired a low shot on target through the crowd, it was kept out by the Brislington defence but no one could stop Stradling from sliding in and making it 1-1.Â
Westbury thought they had taken the lead when the Hulbert brothers combined, Steve chased down a loose high ball to the right of the penalty area and looped his cross over to the far side of the goal for Ricky to finish, but the referee and assistant said that the ball had gone out of play. Stradling has a couple of good breakaway chances that he lashed goalwards but one was too high and the other was straight down the throat of Dorrington in the Brislington goal.Â
Even though Westbury were the stronger team in the second half Brislington did enough to restrict them to one goal and take the points, with Millar’s thunderbolt in the 93rd minute.
